Round 6 of the Youth NPL brings a clash of the two league leaders in the U15s age group, Newcastle Olympic and Charlestown Azzuri. Both teams have played 5 matches and have won all five with Olympic ahead on goal difference. Who will remain at the top of the u15s points table after Saturday’s match?
The Olympic team last dropped points at Darling St Oval on the 24th August 2019! They have won EVERY single competition game ever since! Last year Olympic won the minor Premiership 26 points ahead of Charlestown while defeating them 1-0 at Lisle Carr Oval and 2-1 at Darling St Oval. Impressive statistics but all this is history! It all goes on the line at 12.20 on Saturday at Darling St Oval.
Will Olympic be in 1st place alone after the match or will the Azzuri put an end to Olympic’s 24 game consecutive winning run?
In the remaining age groups u13s will be wanting to follow on from their gutsy 2-1 victory at Valentine last week to bring them into the top 4. Azzuri are currently in 4th spot on 9 points while Olympic sit in 6th spot on 7.
U14s who are outright league leaders in their age group and are favourites in the fixture against the Azzuri who sit in 4th! The big question is if the Azzuri can overcome a pre-season mauling they suffered at the hands of this Olympic team to put up a good performance of the day?
Finally, high flying U16s will be on que for another attacking display against 7th placed Azzuri. Olympic sit on 2nd spot on the ladder behind league leaders Lambton Jaffas who they have already played and defeated this year. Olympic have scored a staggering 23 goals in their past three outings and are only 2nd on the ladder due to a washed out match in Tarree which was deemed a draw!
Plenty to play for on Saturday morning at Darling St Oval. Good luck to all the teams and players and a thought for our canteen staff who will be serving their goodies throughout the day.
