Hamilton Olympic: Stage 1- GROUND IMPROVEMENTS – Darling Street Oval

Last Monday saw the start of the installation of 4 new floodlight poles and associated upgrading of the lighting system at Darling street.

Staff from the NCC and contractors will be there for the next few weeks making sure all works are completed well before the start of the 2019 football season. Their work will  be supplemented by the recent grant the club received courtesy of the 2015 Asian Cup Legacy fund.

The existing floodlighting system was completed by club volunteers just before the beginning of the 1993 football season, so the upgrade is certainly required to improve our LUX reading so we can host associated fixtures.

Starting this week, a new internal drainage system on the main playing surface at Darling Street Oval will be installed by one of the leading experts in that field, Turfspec Pty. Ltd.

The majority of this funding was from our successful 2017 Community Building Partnership grant that we received from the State Member of Newcastle, Mr. Tim Crakanthorp. This grant  will be used to fix drainage problems and therefore improve the playing surface.

The field last had major drainage works completed in 2001, so in the ensuing period, the drainage has deteriorated. All drainage works will be completed by October this year, and should be ready to go for season 2019.

Under 16 Youth NPL Grand Final- Hamilton Olympic vs Valentine 3-0

Youth Grand Final Day saw HOFC under 16s also feature as our second team on “decider day.” Our team went into the match as favourites against Valentine Phoenix, who had upset Premiers Newcastle Jets by 3 goals to 1 the previous weekend, while our boys had defeated Lambton in a hard fought semi- final by one goal to nil, courtesy of a late penalty to Jared Muller.

The boys came out firing early, and by the 31st minute had put three goals
past the Valentine custodian. A 7th minute own goal , followed by a
beautiful Muller header in the 26th minute saw the boys go up 2 nil. Scoring
on the day was completed by Elliot Paksec, who pushed up from his defensive
position to tap in the third goal.

The boys then basically shut up shop, running  out convincing winners by 3 goals to 0. A top performance by all the boys, and no doubt coaches Payton and Blair would have been extremely happy with the 2018 season. In a side note, it was great to see the support that the Paksec boys had from some of their friends on Grand Final day, as can be seen by the photo below.

Under 13 Youth NPL Grand Final- Hamilton Olympic V Broadmeadow Magic 4-2

Saturday 15th September, 2018 REVIEW:

Last Saturday saw an exciting 13s Grand Final, between Olympic and the home
team, Broadmeadow.  Olympic had come into the decider confident after having
beaten  undefeated Lambton in a seven goal thriller by 4 to 3 in the semi-
final the previous week.

The boys certainly continued their great form on Saturday, with two early goals to Byron Bennett and Sam Jackson seeingOlympic taking an early lead, before two penalties in the 16th and 24th
minute to Broadmeadow saw the teams go into the sheds at 2 all at half time.
In an inspiring second half, where Olympic played some exciting football to
score two more goals to Oscar Cathcart and Remi Flood , the boys deservedly
ran out winners by 4 to 2.

A huge result! Congratulations to all the
players, coaches Reece and Luke, and hardworking manager Adam.
