U16s Newcastle Jets play the second last match of the season away to Hakoah Sydney City and are in the hunt for a win which will contribute to them winning the Premiership and the Newcastle Jets Academy gaining promotion to FNSW Boy’s Youth League 1! With two games remaining the u16s Newcastle Jets are 5 points ahead of Hills United who play Parramatta on Wednesday night and who meet Rydalmere Lions on Saturday. Both Hakoah and Rydalmere will be fighting for 4^th place on the ladder which will enable them to enter the semi-finals.

If the Jets win and Hills United defeat Parramatta and lose or draw against Rydalmere, the Jets win the 2022 U16s Premiership on Saturday. If both teams win, all will be decided on the last day at Speers Point where the Jets require a win or a draw to claim the title. If the Jets lose against Hakoah and Hills United defeat both Parramatta and Rydalmere, the Jets require a win at Speers Point on the final game to win the Premiership! 

In the first match at Speers Point the Jets overcame Hakoah by 3-1. In the past 5 matches, the Jets have won 4 and had 1 draw while Hakoah have won 2, lost 2 and had 1 draw.

U18s Newcastle Jets are in 4^th spot on the points table with a game against equal second last Hakoah on Saturday and Nepean on Monday. The Jets are stronger on paper and if they win both matches, they should reach 2^nd spot and be in the semi-finals.

U15s Newcastle Jets are comfortably in 2^nd place on the points table and should overcome 10^th placed Hakoah who have won only 1 game in their past five outings on Saturday and 2^nd last Nepean on Tuesday in Sydney.

U14s Newcastle Jets are 6^th on the points table and will not make the semi-finals regardless of the results in their final three games of the season. They meet a strong Hakoah team who is only 1 point behind them on the points table on Saturday but should not have any difficulty overcoming second last Nepean next Wednesday.

U13s Newcastle Jets are equal 1^st on the ladder with a game in hand! They will meet stiff resistance from Hakoah on Saturday who are only one point behind but should have no troubles over second last placed Nepean next Wednesday.

Regarding the Club Championship, Newcastle Jets are in second place on the table which leads to promotion to FNSW Boy’s Youth League 1. The u14s to u18s teams have a total of 11 games to play until the end of the season. For the Newcastle Jets Academy to secure 2^nd place and therefore promotion they need to record 5 wins in those 11 matches!

This should be achieved by mid-week during the games at Nepean in Sydney!

U16s Newcastle Jets defeated Bonnyrigg White Eagles 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at The Forum, University No2 Oval, in Newcastle to complete a 7 match marathon in 14 days! The Jets have now played all four of their washed-out games, are 5 points clear on the ladder with two matches remining!

The match against Bonnyrigg was never in any doubt with the Sydney team creating no more than one clear cut chance all game. The Jets opened the score early from a well taken corner and a volley from the far post. After this goal, the Jets continued to dominate possession but the warm conditions and the fact they were playing their 7^th match in 14 days began to show. Despite this, they went into half time 1-0.

In the second half the Jets continued to dominate possession and create goal scoring opportunities. During a sustained attack, a foul was made on the edge of the box which resulted in a Bonnyrigg player to be shown the red card. From the ensuing free kick, the Jets scored and the 2-0 score line remained until the end.

This was not the most entertaining game but the players did enough to win and bring their 14 day football marathon to an end.

After this match they remain in 1^st place, 5 points ahead of Hills United who play their final wash-out game against Parramatta on Wednesday night. Unless both teams drop any points in their remaining games, the Jets against Hakoah next week and Hills against Parramatta and Rydalmere, the Premiership will be decided at Speers Point in the final round of the season when the two leading teams face each other.

U16s Newcastle Jets recorded another casual victory over St George by 3-0 at The Forum, University Oval 2 on Saturday afternoon and are 3 games away from winning the U16s FNSW Boy’s Youth League 2 Premiership. The Newcastle team were favourites to win this match and dominated the game throughout.

They led 2-0 at the break, added another goal early in the second half and had a plethora of chances to make the score line much higher throughout the match. This was the 6^th match in 13 days for the team but judging by the way they were playing, it didn’t give that impression!

On Sunday they play out the wash-out match from Round 20 against Bonnyrigg White Eagles at the same venue and at the same time to complete a 7 game football marathon in 14 days! Given that Bonnyrigg have only won 4 games all season and are placed last on the points table, the Newcastle Jets are favourites to win this match too!

The other great news about Round 28 is that the Jets teams secured 9 points for the Club Championship from a possible 12 and have already moved into 2^nd spot on the table despite playing 7 games less than 3^rd placed St George City FA. Any points gained on Sunday’s game against Bonnyrigg White Eagles will add to this tally and this in turn will lead to promotion in FNSW Boy’s Youth League 1 next season.

U16s Newcastle Jets complete their football marathon of seven matches in 14 days this weekend when they meet St George on Saturday and Bonnyrigg White Eagles on Sunday at the Forum University No 2 Oval. The first match is Round 28 of the competition while the second, Round 20 which had been declared a wash out due to the weather.

The U16s Jets sit in first place of the competition, two points clear from their nearest opponent while St George occupy equal second last spot on the ladder while Bonnyrigg is last. Obviously the Jets are favourites to win both games but they might be without some players on Saturday who might be “playing up” as well as the physical fatigue from playing seven matches in 14 days!

Victory in both games is necessary for the Jets if they are to have a chance of taking out the U16s Premiership as well as contributing points towards the Club Championship that lead to promotion to FNSW Boy’s Youth League 1.

U18s Newcastle Jets will have a tough opponent on Saturday as St George sit in 6^th spot on the ladder, only 4 points behind the Jets and will be contesting for a place in the final 4. The Jets have had two consecutive losses while St George have recorded only one loss in the past five games. Sunday should be an easier task for the Jets team as Bonnyrigg are second last in the competition.

U15s Jets are comfortably in 2^nd spot on the ladder but will be tested by St George on Saturday who are in 11^th spot and Bonnyrigg who are in 7^th position. The only advantage for the Jets is that neither opponent has a chance of making the top 4 and will be playing only for their pride.

U14s Jets are in 8^th position after two consecutive wins and should have a competitive game against St George who are in 12^th spot. On Sunday the task will be much harder against Bonnyrigg who are in 5^th position on the ladder and will be looking for points to secure a top 4 finish.

U13s Jets are in 3^rd position with two games in hand but will need all the strength they can find on Saturday to quell the challenge from St George who are 4^th on the ladder and who will be playing for a possible top 4 finish. Sunday will be less intense as Bonnyrigg are third last on the ladder and will only be playing for their pride.

Another interesting weekend of football and many points at stake for all five Jets teams.

The midweek top of the table clash between Nepean FC and Newcastle Jets at Penrith certainly lived up to its expectations! It had excitement, goals, intensity, controversy, and most importantly, two teams who stood toe to toe for 80 minutes trying to win 3 points.

The first half began with Nepean playing a 3-5-2 formation which was designed to stop the Jets from imposing their passing game, a tactic which succeeded. As a result of not enjoying the usual domination of play there was an unusual lack of composure in the play of the Newcastle team.

Within the first five minutes the Newcastle defence was caught square at the back and a simple through ball enabled one of the Nepean forwards to make the score 1-0 for the Sydney team! The rest of the half continued to be an arm wrestle between two teams that cancelled each other out. The Jets couldn’t break through the flanks nor through the middle of the Nepean defence.

Just before the half time whistle, a clearance from the Newcastle goalkeeper resulted in a Nepean defender receiving the ball deep in their half, another defence splitting ball, and Nepean leading 2-0 at the break!

In the second half the momentum of the Nepean team dropped as they began to show more concern at protecting their 2-0 lead than adding to this, while the intensity of the Newcastle Jets increased. Soon the Jets began to string their passes together and began to dominate play for the first time in the game.

A free kick from outside the box was floated in, it ended up at the feet of a Jets winger who crossed it into the head of a Newcastle forward who had no difficulty in bringing the score back to 2-1! This gave the Newcastle team even more momentum and their passing game resulted in more domination while the Nepean team were reduced to back peddling.

Another head on attack from the Jets resulted in the ball being played out wide, a Newcastle winger then fired a shot which took a slight deflection and the game was brought back to 2-2! The Jets continued to attack and create goal scoring opportunities. During a sustained Jets attack a shot from outside the box hit the Nepean cross bar, the ball appeared to bounce behind the line but after a deliberation between the linesman and referee, a “no goal” was decided!

Nepean then replied with a goal of their own which was judged as offside! The teams continued their arm wrestle until the final whistle.

U16s Newcastle Jets travel to Penrith on Wednesday for a top of the table clash with Nepean FC as part of a washed out Round 21 match which was originally scheduled for Sunday 10^th July!

The match against Nepean will be the 5^th game in eleven days for the Newcastle team and the 6^th for most of it’s players who deputized for the u18s over the weekend in Wollongong and Sydney!

Nepean occupy 3^rd spot on the ladder, trail the Jets by 5 points and are fresh from a 7-1 away thrashing of Parramatta on Saturday at Melita stadium. The Jets are in recovery mode from a 1-0 away win in Wollongong over South Coast Flame on Saturday and a 4-2 win over Prospect United in Sydney on Sunday. They will be at full strength on Wednesday night, something which they haven’t been for many weeks due to many of their players ‘playing up” in u18s who in turn have been playing up to accommodate a shortfall in the playing roster of the u20s.

A win by the Jets keeps them in first spot on the ladder and ranks them favourites in the hunt for finishing as u16s FNSW Boy’s Youth League 2 Premiers for 2022! A loss for Nepean puts them out of range for this honour and reduces their season to a battle for 2^nd or 3^rd spot with Hills United.

Will the Jets have enough in the tank to beat a Nepean team which they defeated 4-1 at Speers Point earlier in the season or will the fatigue and the hunger of the Nepean team be too much to handle?

The match is due to kick off at 7:15pm at Jamison Park in Penrith on Wednesday 24^th August.

U16s Newcastle Jets return on their throne at the top of the FNSW Boy’s League 2 table after defeating Prospect United SC 4-2 in Sydney on Sunday afternoon! Starting the match at full strength, the Jets began the game at a high tempo that rewarded them with three goals in the first 20 minutes! The match was effectively over as a contest before a quarter of the game was played but it was evident from the number of games played over the past week, the intensity of the game could not be sustained over the duration of the 80 minutes!

Within the first 5 minutes of the second half the Jets added a fourth goal with a header from a nicely taken corner. The sunny conditions of Sunday, a stark contrast to the windy and icy weather experienced in Wollongong the day before, began to take its toll on the Jets players who were playing their 4^th game in seven days! The intensity began to drop in the last 20 minutes giving the local team their best part of the game. During this period they managed to draw one goal back through a soft penalty and a second, through a well executed free kick from outside the box.

Despite the late rally by the Prospect players, the Jets collected another 3 points which returned them to the top of the U16s table, 1 point ahead of Hills United who have also played one game more!

Sunday turned out to be a very productive day for the Jets as they were able to accumulate 9 points out of a possible 12 that keeps them in the hunt for one of the first two places in the Club Championship that leads to promotion to FNSW Boy’s League 1 next season!

This match was a wash out Round 11 game that was originally scheduled for 1/5/2022! The U16s Newcastle Jets head back to Sydney on Wednesday evening to contest another wash out game from Round 21 against Nepean FC .

In cold and windy conditions and on a field not fit for football of this standard, the u16s Newcastle Jets defeated South Coast Flame with greater ease than the 1-0 score line would indicate! Dominating play throughout the game, the Wollongong side was reduced to only one goal scoring opportunity throughout the match.

Fielding a squad without three regular players who were “playing up”, the Newcastle Jets dominated possession and goal scoring opportunities but lacked the ability to finish off their moves. The single goal in the match came late in the first half with a nice solo run and shot from just inside the box after the South Coast defense failed to challenge for the ball in time.

Apart from physical fatigue from playing their third match in seven days, mental fatigue was evident in the players due to their inability to stay composed when finishing moves. They dominated open play as well as goal scoring opportunities throughout the second half.

This situation was not improved after the match when as many as eight players were forced to “play up” into the u18s, some with a bare 10 minute break between games! Indeed the u18s team boasted only two outfield regular players and their goal keeper. The rest were u16s, the majority of whom had just put in an 80 minute shift in their own age group.

The effect of all this was the collection of only 7 points for the Club Championship and the possibility of perhaps missing out on promotion to FNSW Boy’s League One next season!

Players of all age groups have less than 24 hours to recover to play out the wash out match from Round 11, four months ago, against Prospect United in Sydney on Sunday!

On a positive, most of the U18s “playing up” today at Speers Point for the U20s will be available for tomorrow’s match in Sydney against Prospect United SC.

U16s Newcastle Jets face South Coast United in Round 27 of the competition on Saturday in Wollongong and the next day play the wash out game with Prospect United from Round 11 in Sydney!

Licking their wounds from their second defeat of the season at Central Coast on Tuesday night, the U16s Jets will have their work cut out as many of their players will probably be unavailable as they will be “playing up”! The magnitude of their task can be gauged by the fact that South Coast defeated Nepean the previous Saturday 2-1 in Sydney!

During the match against Prospect most players should be available to play as they are not required to play up on Sunday. Obviously, there is little time for recovery but Prospect will also be in the same boat as they too will have played another game the previous day.

The remaining Jets age groups will be in the same boat as the u16s. All the teams will be trying to gain as many points for the club championship which leads to promotion to FNSW Boy’s League 1. The degree of success will depend on player availability, how well they play on the day as well as how they cope with fatigue.

On an icy cold evening at Pluim Park on the Central Coast, the U16s Newcastle Jets sustained their second defeat of the season in the Round 23 deferred game which was played on Tuesday night!

Without four outfield players who were “playing up” with the u18s whose match was on at the same time on a different field of the same venue, the U16s Jets crashed out 2-1 in a scrappy game which bore little resemblance to the football we have been accustomed to seeing throughout the year.

Playing with three defenders, five midfielders and two attackers, Central Coast United set out to stop the creative play of the Jets and were successful in doing so. Unable to impose their passing game, the Jets were reduced to running with the ball and dribbling to break through the CCU defence.

In the first half the Jets had most of the possession and opportunities to score but a mix up between the goalkeeper and defence resulted in CCU being gifted a goal. The Jets equalized at the start of the 2^nd half with a nice cross and a glancing header. At 1-1 the Jets gained some composure and began to string their passes together and it looked like it was a matter of time before they would score again. A cross from outside the box was not cleared by Jets defenders and the ball reached an unmarked CCU forward who had no difficulty finding the net for the second time!

The rest of the match was spent with the Jets trying to get through a well marshalled Central Coast defence which held on to the 2-1 score line until the final whistle.

This marks the second defeat of the season which isn’t the end of the world but the team lacked the composure and momentum we have been accustomed to seeing this season. Given they have been scheduled to play 7 matches in 14 days, fatigue could become an issue!

Overall the visit to the Central Coast was not very productive for the Club Championship which determines which first two teams gain promotion to FNSW Boy’s League 1 next season. Gaining a mere 4 points from a possible 12 leaves us in 3^rd place on 178 points from 91 games.
