U16s Newcastle Jets made it two wins from two outings against Bankstown United on Sunday at LMRFF in their first home game of the season. It wasn’t pretty but it was a win!
Playing in warm and humid conditions the Jets began well maintaining possession, keeping the opposition away from their goal and probing the Bankstown goal with through balls and set pieces. Despite enjoying more possession, they lacked composure and were rushing their game instead of the free-flowing passing we are used to seeing. Just before half-time they opened the score with a header from a well taken corner kick.
The Jets continued to dominate possession in the second half but again could not break down their opponent who was reduced to long range shots. The game finished 1-0 to the Jets who recorded their second victory from as many matches. While the frustration at the Jets not being able to play their free-flowing passing game is understandable some credit must also go to the players of Bankstown United who fought all game to ensure this didn’t happen.
