Spectators at the Valentine Sports Park in Sydney were treated to a seven goal feast on Sunday afternoon by the u16s teams of Sydney FC and Newcastle Jets.
The game was played at a frantic pace by both teams focusing on attacking play. Sydney FC found themselves 3-0 up within the first 15 minutes with two poorly defended corners by the Jets and a penalty!
After this early set-back the game settled to attacking exchanges by both teams and with possession being slightly dominated by the Sydneysiders.
The match was played in three quarters of 25 minute duration. After the first break the Newcastle Jets returned with a blistering shot from outside the box which not even the Sydney goalkeeper saw until he had to pick the ball from the back of his net.
As the game wore on the Newcastle team enjoyed more possession and more visits to the opposing goal until the score line was brought back to 3-2!
Confidence for the equalizer was very high with the Newcastle team committing numbers forward in search of the third goal. In two counter attacks by Sydney FC, only minutes apart, the score became 5-2 and the contest was over.
Despite the loss the Newcastle Jets played well against one of the best teams in their age group in all of Australia.
