U16s Newcastle Jets defeat North West Sydney Spirit 2-0

02 end (2)

U16s Newcastle Jets made it 3 wins from three matches in Round 3 of the FNSW Boy’s League Two!

Playing in wet and humid conditions at Christie Park, North Sydney, the Newcastle team had its work cut out from the outset. NWS Spirit played open attacking football and were physically, a very strong team. The entire first half was an arm wrestle by two teams eager for the 3 points.

Half time found both teams locked at 0-0 and the arm wrestle continued for another 20 minutes into the second half. At this point the NWS Spirit side showed a 5 minute lapse in intensity that enabled the Newcastle Jets to score two goals and put the game beyond reach. Both goals were scored 1 minute apart which broke the heart of the local side in what was a fiercely contested game.

NWS Spirit threw all their weight in attack leaving gaps at the back which the Jets were able to punish with a third goal which the referee ruled out as offside! Interesting to note, the linesman who was closer to the action did not raise his flag for offside!

The local team continued to attack in search of a goal and the Newcastle Jets continued to counter-attack. On one such occasion a Sydney defender, unable to get back in time, tackled a Jets player from behind and was given a straight red!

The Newcastle team then focused on retaining possession until the end of the match. This third win in as many matches places the u16s Newcastle Jets team in first place with 6 goals scored and not having conceded any!
