After the triumph by Hamilton Olympic’s u20s in the Grand Final in on Saturday, another two teams progressed to the Grand Final.

NPL Youth Semi Finals

Hamilton Olympic u20s were victorious in the Grand Final held at McDonald Jones stadium over Maitland FC thanks to a goal by Henderson late into the game.

A plethora of Grand Final and Semi-Final action for four Hamilton Olympic teams this weekend.

On Saturday U20s take on Maitland at MacDonald Jones stadium in the Grand Final while three youth NPL teams do battle at Darling St and Adamstown Oval.

HOFC would like to congratulate Olympic Junior and current Newcastle Jets Youth player Adam Zervas on his selection in the Australian squad for the upcoming AFC U16 Championship 2018.

The 2018 Tournament will be held in Malaysia. Australia have been drawn in Group D and will play:
Korea Republic – Saturday 22 September
Iraq – Tuesday 25 September
Afghanistan – Friday 28 September

All at Olympic are very proud of Adam’s achievement and would like to wish him the best of luck in the tournament.

This Saturday Hamilton Olympic u20s  will face off against Maitland FC in the big showdown at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Kick off is at 3:30pm! We call for all Supporters, Players, Friends & Family to come down and support the boys in their bid to become U/20’s NPL Northern NSW Champions!

After  a great year in the inaugural Under 9 SAP Programme, the two Olympic teams will move on and be our 2019 Under 10 SAP teams.

All but one of the boys will be with us again, with all  team members below. We welcome Zac Griffiths, younger brother of Lachlan who is a member of our Under 14 Youth NPL team, into the squad.  Enjoy the summer break, see you in early 2019, boys!!

It finishes 0-0 at Magic Park between Hamilton Olympic & Broadmeadow Magic FC in the NPL Northern NSW U/20’s second leg of their semi final with our boys qualifying for the big dance on the away goal rule! Bring on next weekend!

In the U/18’s 2nd leg Semi Final Olympic won 2-0 over Lake Macquarie City FC! Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to progress to the Grand Final after it finished 3-2 on aggregate! Well done boys for a great season and I’m sure we will be back bigger and better next year!

After coming back from 2-0 down the boys managed to pull 3 goals back to be crowned A grade Premiers & Grand Final winners! Well done boys!

This Sunday our U/18’s & U/20’s travel to Magic Park for their second leg Semi Final!

As it stands our U/18’s trail Lake Macquarie 3-0 after the first leg and our U/20’s are locked at 1-1 with Broadmeadow Magic FC!

Get down to Magic Park to support the boys in blue as they look to book their spot in the 2018 NPL Northern NSW Grandfinal.

SAP stands for Skills Acquisition Program and covers the age group from U’9 to U’13.

This is the first year where National Premier League Clubs have been involved in running a SAP program. The emphasis of SAP is as it states and that is it focuses on skills acquisition. The four fundamental skills are;

* Striking the ball

* First touch

* 1v1

* Running with the ball

In this age bracket it is crucial to develop these basic skills because it has been found that after this phase any skills not attained are extremely hard to catch up on.

These basic skills cover 95% of outfield players’ actions when in possession of the ball and are learned through structured game like sessions that allow these skills to be developed at the same time as decision making and communication skills. The goal being that these skills will be automated before moving into the next phase being Game Training Phase.

Players are given every opportunity to develop these 4 skills through specific training and games where they are rotated through all positions and by taking away the focus from the result / score (but try stopping 9 year olds from keeping score).

Trials were undertaken early in the year where over 40 kids trialled for 18 places. Not an easy thing to do with kids of this age but from all feedback the selectors did a good job in selecting a group of boys with good skills and the right attitude towards developing their skills further. Two teams of 9 were created and both have progressed really well but also bonded together as one big squad. They have demonstrated high level skills for this age while developing friendships and enjoying each other’s company and sharing many moments of side splitting laughter. They have developed but have shown that they play the game because they love it and because it is fun. Due to their ability we coaches often have to remind ourselves that these kids are only 9.

The club has been very supportive of the squad and one of many highlights of the season was playing before the first grade team, walking onto the field with the first grade players and joining them in the change rooms post-match for the victory song.

These kids love the club, wearing their strip with pride and early signs are positive that they will develop the skills required to make them future first graders.
