Hamilton Olympic: Stage 1- GROUND IMPROVEMENTS – Darling Street Oval

Last Monday saw the start of the installation of 4 new floodlight poles and associated upgrading of the lighting system at Darling street.

Staff from the NCC and contractors will be there for the next few weeks making sure all works are completed well before the start of the 2019 football season. Their work will  be supplemented by the recent grant the club received courtesy of the 2015 Asian Cup Legacy fund.

The existing floodlighting system was completed by club volunteers just before the beginning of the 1993 football season, so the upgrade is certainly required to improve our LUX reading so we can host associated fixtures.

Starting this week, a new internal drainage system on the main playing surface at Darling Street Oval will be installed by one of the leading experts in that field, Turfspec Pty. Ltd.

The majority of this funding was from our successful 2017 Community Building Partnership grant that we received from the State Member of Newcastle, Mr. Tim Crakanthorp. This grant  will be used to fix drainage problems and therefore improve the playing surface.

The field last had major drainage works completed in 2001, so in the ensuing period, the drainage has deteriorated. All drainage works will be completed by October this year, and should be ready to go for season 2019.

Under 16 Youth NPL Grand Final- Hamilton Olympic vs Valentine 3-0

Youth Grand Final Day saw HOFC under 16s also feature as our second team on “decider day.” Our team went into the match as favourites against Valentine Phoenix, who had upset Premiers Newcastle Jets by 3 goals to 1 the previous weekend, while our boys had defeated Lambton in a hard fought semi- final by one goal to nil, courtesy of a late penalty to Jared Muller.

The boys came out firing early, and by the 31st minute had put three goals
past the Valentine custodian. A 7th minute own goal , followed by a
beautiful Muller header in the 26th minute saw the boys go up 2 nil. Scoring
on the day was completed by Elliot Paksec, who pushed up from his defensive
position to tap in the third goal.

The boys then basically shut up shop, running  out convincing winners by 3 goals to 0. A top performance by all the boys, and no doubt coaches Payton and Blair would have been extremely happy with the 2018 season. In a side note, it was great to see the support that the Paksec boys had from some of their friends on Grand Final day, as can be seen by the photo below.

Under 13 Youth NPL Grand Final- Hamilton Olympic V Broadmeadow Magic 4-2

Saturday 15th September, 2018 REVIEW:

Last Saturday saw an exciting 13s Grand Final, between Olympic and the home
team, Broadmeadow.  Olympic had come into the decider confident after having
beaten  undefeated Lambton in a seven goal thriller by 4 to 3 in the semi-
final the previous week.

The boys certainly continued their great form on Saturday, with two early goals to Byron Bennett and Sam Jackson seeingOlympic taking an early lead, before two penalties in the 16th and 24th
minute to Broadmeadow saw the teams go into the sheds at 2 all at half time.
In an inspiring second half, where Olympic played some exciting football to
score two more goals to Oscar Cathcart and Remi Flood , the boys deservedly
ran out winners by 4 to 2.

A huge result! Congratulations to all the
players, coaches Reece and Luke, and hardworking manager Adam.

FUNDING TO HAMILTON OLYMPIC FOOTBALL CLUB

Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald MLC with representatives from Football Nth NSW and Hamilton Olympic Football Club at Darling Street Oval

Sports Minister Stuart Ayres has today announced that football clubs from around NSW will once again benefit from the $4.1 million invested back into local football clubs from the 2015 Asian Cup Legacy Fund.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald said Hamilton Olympic Football Club will receive $72,407 for installation of new floodlighting at Darling Street Oval in Hamilton South.

“It is fantastic to see that this major international sporting event hosted in 2015 has been able to continue to benefit grassroots sport by helping to boost local participation through these successful grants,” Mr MacDonald said.

Sports Minister Stuart Ayres said: “The second round of the fund will see 19 projects worth more than $2.3 million go towards improving the quality and quantity of local club facilities across the state.”

Hamilton Olympic FC Chairman Christo Patsan said the club has DA approval for a comprehensive redevelopment of Darling Street Oval. This includes a new grandstand and amenities complex, expansion of training facilities and floodlighting.

“We thank Scot McDonald and the NSW Government for their continued support of local sport. This grant is an important step forward in our redevelopment of Darling Street Oval into a year-round boutique football stadium,” Mr Patsan said.

NSW Football CEO David Eland said the collaborative effort of the NSW Government, Football NSW (FNSW) and Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) has enabled local clubs to benefit.

“Along with supporting participation, we will see flow-on effects such as these upgraded and new facilities creating stronger communities – whilst improving the overall experience for players, coaches and spectators,” Mr Eland said.

“With more than 280,000 registered players now playing football in NSW, it is the financial support from initiatives such as this legacy fund that will ensure the future of Football continues to grow around the state.”

Hamilton Olympic u13s and u16s in Youth NPL Grand Final

Yesterday, our 13s/ 14s/ and 16s NPL Youth teams contested their  SEMI- FINALS, one at Adamstown Oval, and two at Darling Street Oval, with the winners earning a spot in the 2018 Youth NPL Grand Finals which will be played next Saturday at Magic Park.

Our Under 13 kicked off first, at Adamstown Oval, and were facing Minor Premiers Lambton, who the boys hadn’t defeated during the regular season. Our 13s had snuck into 4th spot after defeating Lakes 8 nil in the last fixture of the season. The boys really fired yesterday,  and came back from conceding an early goal to score 4 unanswered goals, to take a 4 to 1 nil lead midway through the second half. A couple of the goals were of high quality, with the team really spreading the ball around and playing attractive football. A Lambton free kick, followed by a last minute penalty saw the boys running out eventual winners 4 to 3,  and progressing to the Under 13 decider, where they will face traditional rival, Broadmeadow Magic. A great result to the boys, and no doubt coach Reece and assistant Luke will have the boys primed for the decider next Saturday. Goal scorers on the day were Will Southcombe, Oscar Cathcart, Sam Jackson and Byron Bennett.

Our Under 14s faced off against North Coast Football at Darling Street Oval in the second match of the afternoon. After going one up early, our 14s conceded early goals to go into half time down 5 goals to 2. An early second half goal saw the score come back to 5 to 3, but a couple of missed chances saw the boys unable to add to the scoreboard. The 14s had just 13s players for a large chunk of the year, with the loss of a player to the Jets mid-year.  The boys overall had a great year, but yesterday were defeated by the better team. Take the loss on the chin, boys, and come back bigger and better next year! A big thanks to Coaches Doug West and Todd Bailey and Manager  Justin Woweries for their efforts during the year. Goal scores for Olympic on the day were Christian Bracco, Kierry James and Declan Hughes.

The last fixture under the lights at Darling Street saw the home team face close town rivals Lambton Jaffas in the Under 16s second v third place match.  This was your typical semi- final, close, hard fought ,with both teams playing a great brand of football. After an even first half, Olympic gained the upper  hand, and had the better of the chances in the second stanza.  With the Paksec boys marshalling the Olympic defence, chances for the opposition were limited. A contentious second yellow card saw Olympic down to 10 players for the last 15 minutes. However, this seemed to spur the boys on, and after a period of sustained pressure, Olympic striker Jared Muller was fouled in the box, just with seven minutes remaining. Jared showed composure to step up and take the ensuing penalty, and send the Jaffas keeper the wrong way. The boys held out for the last few minutes, to make it through to the decider. Here they will face Valentine, who upset Minor Premiers the Newcastle Jets.  Great effort boys, with coaches Payton Tagaroulias and Blair Newham certainly pleased with the overall performance.
