Australia

George Tsamouras is a 19-year-old football player who plays for Newcastle Olympic FC. The team is based in Hamilton a suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales. They currently compete in the National Premier League of Northern NSW, the second tier of football in Australia.

George began his football journey at Newcastle Olympic at the age of 6 back in 2012. At the end of the season as an under 9 in 2015, he was identified by Newcastle Football and spent the remaining three seasons in the elite Skill Acquisition Programme run initially by Newcastle Football and then by NNSW Football.

He returned to Olympic in 2019 and joined the u13s NPL competition while at the same time being part of the Talent Support Programme, run by NNSW Football. The following two seasons, despite being interrupted by Covid-19 restrictions and lockdowns, the Newcastle Olympic team were back to back premiers! George himself was successful in being picked in the Talent Support Programme of 2021, the NNSW State Team which was scheduled to play in the Australian Nationals and finally the Academy of the Newcastle Jets. George was also voted Newcastle Olympic U15s Player’s Player of the Year for 2021!

In 2022 George played in all but one of the 30 matches for u16s Newcastle Jets (missed 1 match due to Covid isolation) as well as a further 11 for u18s Newcastle Jets! He also received an offer to play for the u18s Newcastle Jets in 2023 which he accepted. In terms of honors, George helped U16s Newcastle Jets win the u16s FNSW Boy’s Youth League 2 Premiership, Grand-Final as well as promotion to Youth League One in 2023.

In 2023 George participated in the U18s FNSW Boy’s Youth League One competition as well as the U20s FNSW League Two Men’s competition with the Newcastle Jets. He played 17 games for U20s and was successful in winning the U20s FNSW League Two Men’s Premiership for 2023.

George also made his first step towards the European dream in 2023! After securing a European passport, he accepted invitations to trial by Greek Super League 1 sides, Asteras Tripolis and Panathinaikos! Unable to secure a spot in these two clubs, more because of his young age than talent, George completed a three week trial at Super League 2 side A.S.A. Karditsa FC and was offered a place in their U19s squad for season 2023-24!

George played in the U19s side for the duration of the season and by November was invited to train with the first grade team. At the end of the season he returned to Australia and trained with Newcastle Olympic to maintain his fitness.

In 2024-25 ASA Karditsa invited the player to participate in the senior team’s pre-season training programme! After three weeks of training, the newly appointed coach showed little interest in the club’s youth and began signing senior players from all over the country! After refusing to offer a single position to any of the club’s U19s players, George was left with no other option but to return home.

Celebrating his 18^th birthday as well as gaining an apprenticeship with a local Newcastle firm within a month from his return, George become committed to living and playing in Newcastle for the next three years!

Returning to Newcastle Olympic and playing for the club where his football journey began was a decision that didn’t require much deliberation!

In 2025 George was a member of Newcastle Olympics’ Reserve Grade Men’s NPL team, played in all but three games which he missed through injury and despite being a midfielder, was equal third highest goal scorer! He was also on the bench for many First-Grade games but most importantly of all, he assisted his team in winning the 2025 Reserve Grade Men’s NPL Premiership of Northern NSW! This was his third Premiership in Newcastle Olympic colours and the 5^th Premiership in the past 6 seasons!

Ο Γιώργος Τσαμούρας είναι ένας 19χρονος ποδοσφαιριστής που αγωνίζεται στην Newcastle Olympic FC. Η ομάδα εδρεύει στο Hamilton, ένα προάστιο του Newcastle, New South Whales. Αυτή τη στιγμή συμμετέχει στο National Premier League of Northern NSW, την δεύτερη κατηγορία ποδοσφαίρου στην Αυστραλία.

Ο Γιώργος ξεκίνησε την ποδοσφαιρική του πορεία στο Newcastle Olympic σε ηλικία 6 ετών το 2012. Τις επόμενες δύο σεϊζόν, παρά το γεγονός ότι διακόπηκε από τους περιορισμούς και τα lockdown του Covid-19, η ομάδα της Newcastle Olympic κέρδισε δύο διαδοχικά πρωταθλήματα! Ο ίδιος ο Γιώργος κατάφερε να επιλεγεί στο Πρόγραμμα Υποστήριξης Ταλέντων του 2021, στην μικτή NNSW State Team που είχε προγραμματιστεί να παίξει στους Australian Nationals και τέλος στην Ακαδημία των Newcastle Jets. Ο Γιώργος ψηφίστηκε επίσης Παίκτης της Χρονιάς στην Κ15 της Newcastle Olympic για το 2021!

Το 2022 ο Γιώργος έπαιξε σε όλους τους αγώνες εκτός από έναν για την Κ16 Newcastle Jets (έχασε 1 αγώνα λόγω απομόνωσης Covid) καθώς και άλλους 11 για την Κ18 Newcastle Jets! Έλαβε επίσης πρόταση να παίξει για την Κ18 Newcastle Jets το 2023, την οποία αποδέχτηκε. Όσον αφορά τις διακρίσεις, ο Γιώργος βοήθησε την Κ16 Newcastle Jets να κερδίσει το πρωτάθλημα Κ16 FNSW Boy’s Youth League 2 Premiership, Grand-Final καθώς και την άνοδο στη Youth League One το 2023!

Το 2023 ο Γιώργος συμμετείχε στην Κ18 FNSW Boy’s Youth League One καθώς και στην Κ20 FNSW League Two Men’s με τους Newcastle Jets. Έπαιξε 17 παιχνίδια για την Κ20 και κατάφερε να κερδίσει το πρωτάθλημα της Κ20 FNSW League Two Men’s για το 2023.

Το 2023 σηματοδότησε επίσης τη χρονιά κατά την οποία ο Γιώργος έκανε το πρώτο του βήμα προς το Ευρωπαϊκό όνειρο! Αφού εξασφάλισε Ευρωπαϊκό διαβατήριο, δέχτηκε προσκλήσεις για δοκιμή από τις Ελληνικές ομάδες της Super League 1, Αστέρα Τρίπολης και Παναθηναϊκό! Αδυνατώντας να εξασφαλίσει μια θέση σε αυτές τις δύο ομάδες, περισσότερο λόγω του νεαρού της ηλικίας του παρά λόγω του ταλέντου του, ο Γιώργος ολοκλήρωσε μια δοκιμαστική περίοδο τριών εβδομάδων στην ομάδα της Super League 2 Α.Σ.Α. Καρδίτσας και του προσφέρθηκε μια θέση στο ρόστερ της Κ19 για τη σεϊζόν 2023-24!

Το 2024-25 ο ΑΣΑ Καρδίτσας κάλεσε τον παίκτη να συμμετάσχει στο προπονητικό πρόγραμμα της πρώτης ομάδας! Δυστυχώς, μετά από τρεις εβδομάδες, ο νεοδιορισθείς προπονητής έδειξε ελάχιστο ενδιαφέρον για τους νέους του συλλόγου και άρχισε να υπογράφει παίκτες από όλη τη χώρα! Αφού αρνήθηκε να προσφέρει ούτε μία θέση σε παίκτη της Κ19 του συλλόγου, ο Γιώργος δεν είχε άλλη επιλογή από το να επιστρέψει στην πατρίδα του.

Γιορτάζοντας τα 18α γενέθλια του καθώς και αποκτώντας μια μαθητεία σε μια τοπική εταιρεία του Newcastle μέσα σε ένα μήνα από την επιστροφή του, ο Γιώργος δεσμεύτηκε να ζήσει και να παίξει στο Newcastle για τα επόμενα τρία χρόνια!

Η επιστροφή στην Newcastle Olympic και το να παίξει για τον σύλλογο όπου ξεκίνησε το ποδοσφαιρικό του ταξίδι ήταν μια απόφαση που δεν απαιτούσε πολλή σκέψη!

George ha iniziato il suo viaggio calcistico al Newcastle Olympic all’età di 6 anni nel 2012. Nel 2022 George ha giocato in tutte le 30 partite tranne una per gli U16 Newcastle Jets (ha saltato 1 partita a causa dell’ isolamento Covid) e altre 11 per gli U18 Newcastle Jets! Ha anche ricevuto un’offerta per giocare per gli U18 Newcastle Jets nel 2023 che ha accettato. Per quanto riguarda le onoreficenze, George ha aiutato gli U16 Newcastle Jets a vincere la FNSW Boy’s Youth League 2 Premiership u16, la Grand-Final e la promozione in Youth League One nel 2023!

Nel 2023 George ha partecipato alla competizione U18s FNSW Boy’s Youth League One e alla competizione U20s FNSW League Two Men’s con i Newcastle Jets. Ha giocato 17 partite per l’U20 e ha vinto la FNSW League Two Men’s Premiership U20s per il 2023.

Il 2023 ha segnato anche l’anno in cui George ha fatto il suo primo passo verso il sogno europeo! Dopo essersi assicurato un passaporto europeo, ha accettato gli inviti al processo da parte delle squadre greche della Super League 1, Asteras Tripolis e Panathinaikos! Incapace di assicurarsi un posto in questi due club, più a causa della sua giovane età che del talento, George ha completato un provino di tre settimane in Super League 2 lato ASA Karditsa FC e gli è stato offerto un posto nella loro squadra U19 per la stagione 2023-24!

George ha giocato nella squadra Under 19 per tutta la durata della stagione e a novembre è stato invitato ad allenarsi con la squadra di prima elementare. Alla fine della stagione è tornato in Australia e si è allenato con il Newcastle Olympic per mantenere la sua forma fisica.

Nel 2024-25 ASA Karditsa ha invitato il giocatore a partecipare al programma di allenamento pre-campionato della squadra senior! Dopo tre settimane di allenamento, il nuovo allenatore ha mostrato scarso interesse per i giovani del club e ha iniziato a ingaggiare giocatori senior da tutto il paese! Dopo aver rifiutato di offrire una posizione singola a nessuno dei giocatori U19 del club, George non ha avuto altra scelta che tornare a casa.

Festeggiando il suo 18° compleanno e ottenendo un apprendistato con un’azienda locale di Newcastle entro un mese dal suo ritorno, George si è impegnato a vivere e giocare a Newcastle per i prossimi tre anni!

Tornare al Newcastle Olympic e giocare per il club in cui è iniziato il suo viaggio calcistico è stata una decisione che non ha richiesto molta riflessione!
