Newcastle Olympic travel to Charlestown Azzurri after four weeks of wash out fixtures

Newcastle Olympic senior men’s teams travel to Charlestown to face Azzurri in Round 14 of the Northern NSW NPL competition after four weeks of wash out fixtures. Olympic’s last match was against Edgeworth on the 26th April, and since then they have had wash out games against New Lambton FC, Belmont Swansea, Cooks Hill and Weston. All these games will need to be played during midweek dates over the next month!

Olympic reserve grade are 1st on the ladder and are favourites in the fixture against an Azzurri team second from bottom! The biggest problem faced by Azzurri has been their inability to score. In a recent catch-up game which didn’t involve their first grade playing immediately afterwards, they were able to field some first grade players and recorded a 6-2 away win at New Lambton FC! Prior to this match they had accumulated only 7 goals in 9 games.  If Olympic continue from where they left off four weeks ago, they will have little problem securing the 3 points. The big question for Olympic is how much has the four week break affected their momentum!

Kick off is at 12:00pm at Lisle Carr Oval on Sunday 1st June.

Olympic and Azzurri first grade share 4th spot on the ladder with little separating the two teams. Azzurri won the fixture at Darling St 2-1 but they have only recorded one win in their past five matches. A win by Olympic will edge them closer to 3rd spot, held by Weston who we were due to play last week. As in the case with reserve grade much will depend on how the four week break has affected the momentum of both teams.

Kick off is at 2:00pm at Lisle Carr Oval on Sunday 1st June.
