George Tsamouras completes a two week training program at Panathinaikos of Athens, Greece

A 16 year old Hunter Sports High school student completed a dream when he finished a two week training program with the U19s Panathinaikos Football Academy in Athens, Greece. George Tsamouras, an ex-Newcastle Olympic and Jets Academy player participated in two weeks of training at the Panathinaikos Sports Centre, including participation in three pre-season friendlies wearing the famous green and white of Panathinaikos.

During his stay, he was able to train with the U19s squad which included a number of U19 Greek internationals. He was supervised by team coach Andreas Drenova and Academy Director, Evangelos Samios. George was able to see how the cream of Greek youth train in a professional environment.

Not only was the young Australian impressed with the Panathinaikos Academy during the day but in the evening, he also had the opportunity to witness the senior side take on the best of Europe in the Champion’s League in front of 80,000 spectators at the Olympic Stadium of Athens!

George Tsamouras scores his first goal on European soil during Asteras Tripolis training

George Tsamouras scored his first goal on European soil during a training session for Super League 1 club Asteras Tripolis in Arcadia, Greece! Leaving Australia and temperatures of around 10 degrees and greeted by temperatures above 35, it was certainly a shock to the system when walking out onto the Tripoli training centre!

Despite this, the eagerness to impress, enabled the 16 year old Hunter Sports High School student to work very hard at training and even score his very first goal on European soil!

Staying in Tripoli for only a few days, George had the opportunity to participate in training sessions of both the U17s and U19s Youth Academy Teams.

A big thank you to Technical Director Christos Papadopoulos and to all the coaches and players for an unforgettable experience.

Ex Newcastle Olympic & Jets Academy player George Tsamouras to train with Greek Super League sides Panathinaikos FC and Asteras Tripolis FC

Ex Newcastle Olympic and Jets Academy player George Tsamouras is off to Europe, training with Greek Super League 1 sides Panathinaikos and Asteras Tripolis! The 16 year old who has been helping the Jets U20s side this season while also playing for his school, Hunter Sports High, is due to arrive in Greece in the first week of August.

After a few days rest, George begins his European sabbatical in the city of Tripoli in Arcadia, Greece, following an invitation by Asteras Tripolis FC, Technical Director, Christos Papadopoulos! Asteras is a Super League 1 team and George will spend time training with their U19 Academy team.

George will then move to Athens and spend two weeks with Super League 1 powerhouse Panathinaikos who were 2nd in the league last season and who will be participating in the European Champion’s League in 2023-24. Invited by Panathinaikos Academy technical director Evangelos Samios, George will spend his two weeks training with the U19s Panathinaikos Academy side.

The third part of his European journey will be concluded with a move across to Italy and ACN Siena FC.
