U20s Newcastle Jets defeat Nepean FC 2-0

Pic 01

U20s Newcastle Jets defeated a tough Nepean FC side by 2-0 in wet and cold conditions at the LMRFF on Sunday night. Scoring as early as the 4th minute through a penalty, the Jets laid the foundations for another routine win.

As the game wore on, the Jets dominated possession but also blew away chance after chance in front of goal. Despite the territorial dominance, the Nepean team was physically strong and proved they were not going to be easy pickings.

Half time found the Jets ahead with just a 1-0 lead and with lots to do in the second half. Due to some players having also played for Youth, which had preceded the match with the U20s, the Newcastle team found itself without a single reserve on the bench in the second half!

With the cold and rain lashing down on players, the U20s Jets threw everything they had at the opposition. A number of on field player positional changes by the Newcastle bench helped the team maximize it’s force as an offensive unit.

The Newcastle team peppered the opposition goal all half and hit the woodwork on numerous occasions. The Nepean team also dug deep and refused to be overrun! There were many physical challenges in the wet conditions resulting in the referee to reach in his pocket for many yellow cards and in the 54th minute, even for a red against a Nepean player. Despite the numerical disadvantage the Nepean team refused to give in.

The few remaining spectators at LMRFF were treated to end to end goal mouth action by both teams. Nepean were desperate for a goal which would enable them to avoid defeat and Newcastle wanted a second goal which would secure the 3 points. In the end, it was Newcastle’s persistence and perseverance that enabled them to score in the 90th minute to secure a well earned and hard fought 2-0 victory.

U20s Newcastle Jets entertain Nepean FC at the LMRFF

With six games remaining the 12 point lead enjoyed by the U20s Newcastle Jets team has been reduced to just 4 after last week’s 1-1 draw in Wollongong. Hopefully the Jets will remember to have all available players on deck this week against a Nepean team which is 9th on the points table!

The Jets are clear favorites but given that Nepean have only lost one of their last five games, they are capable of causing an upset if allowed to do so. A slip-up this week could have 2nd placed Fraser Park within a point of the league leaders and the remaining 5 weeks will be very interesting indeed.

U20s Newcastle Jets take on South Coast in Wollongong

pic 01

U20s Newcastle Jets are 7 games away from collecting the 2023 Men’s Two Premiership. They lead the U20s table by 8 points and given that Jets First Grade have only won one of their past 5 games, are responsible for the Jets being in equal first place on the Club Championship table!

On Saturday they travel to Sir Ian McLennan Oval in Wollongong to take on the South Coast Flame who are 6th on the table and who have won 4 out of their past 5 matches! This should be a competitive match and the Newcastle Jets league leaders will have to work hard to come away with the 3 points.

If the U20s team win in Wollongong they will need 10 points from their remaining 6 matches to secure the Premiership, assuming their closest rivals win every remaining match!

Newcastle Jets First Grade will have an opportunity to gain some points against an 8th placed South Coast who have lost 4 of their past 5 games! The Jets have had just one victory in their past 5 outings and this will be an opportunity to make amends.

U20s Newcastle Jets far too strong for Western Rage

Pic 01

In the battle between “David vs Goliath”, the later proved far too strong, with the Jets running out victors by 7-1. The Newcastle team dominated the game throughout and played some attractive football at Magic Park for all the Jets supporters as well as many neutral onlookers.

Western Rage put up some resistance early in the game but the first goal came in 5th minute! By half time the score was 3-0 and Newcastle dominated possession and played some great attacking football.

With only one player on the bench from the start and after an injury, Western Rage were forced to play with 10 players for most of the match! Newcastle on the other hand, apart from dominating play, had a full bench and made use of all their substitutions! A fourth goal in the 58th minute and a further 3 in the last 13 minutes completed the overall 7-1 score-line.

The win places the U20s Newcastle Jets with an 8 point lead at the top of the table with 7 matches remaining.

U20s Newcastle Jets take on struggling Western Rage at Magic Park

01

U20s Newcastle Jets take on strugglers Western Rage in Round 23 of the competition at Magic Park on Sunday afternoon. The Newcastle team continue to lead the points table by 7 points compared to 12 at one stage in the season. Western Rage on the other hand have only won 3 matches all season and languish in second last position! The Jets should win the 3 points and edge one step closer to securing the U20s Premiership.

The Newcastle Jets Youth team should have little trouble obtaining the 3 points from bottom placed Western Rage. They need to keep up the pressure as they trail first placed UNSW FC by 5 points!
